Chocolate Soup Dumplings from Rickshaw Dumpling Bar (61 West 23rd Street, 212-924-9220)
These two spheres seem to stare up at you from the plate, giving the impression that you’re looking into the vacuous, dark eye sockets of a cartoon skull (or something similarly Halloween-like and eery).
However, this dessert ($2.25 per piece) does not taste as spooky as it looks!
A sesame seed-covered pasta pouch contains liquefied, warm chocolate that you slurp up just like a savory soup dumpling. The flavor comes across as sweet and nutty, but not overly rich or excessively doughy.
