If they come out at all.
Gone are the days of “Yep, I’m Gay!” magazine covers and grand-scale declarations.
Michelangelo Signorile explains that today’s gays open the closet door via a casual comment on their blog or a quickie mention in an interview.
Why do it like that?
Signorile explains that this way, the stars avoid promoting the idea that they were ever in the closet in the first place!
And as far as I can see, most of them (Zach Quinto, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons) were glass closeted anyway–i.e., they led pretty open lives, never dredging up bogus opposite-sex lovers or excuses and sometimes even being seen with their partners.
So cheers to the new subtle queers–as long as they follow up their casual mentions with a lifetime of honesty and not crawling back.
And thank God MTV’s Paul Iacono decided to do it the semi-old-fashioned way, by coming out to yours truly in a big way!
