This week the self-titled debut by the British duo 2:54 came out in the U.S., and those of you who want to celebrate the summertime with sweeping, riff-drenched, echoing gloom might be interested in checking it out; the chugging minor-key sadness that sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow conjure up is pretty bewitching, with Colette Thurlow’s reverbed burr recalling that of Curve’s Toni Halliday. To celebrate the album’s release over here, the band is playing a show at the Knitting Factory on Saturday, and Sound of the City is giving away a pair of tickets. Opening up is the wonderful, similarly gauzy Brooklyn act Widowspeak. Clips of both acts, and information on how to enter, below.
To enter, send your name and phone number to sotc at villagevoice dot com by noon ET on Friday, June 8. Please note that the prize only includes tickets to the show, and does not include transportation to New York City.
