Three years ago, “Shots” was the most annoying thing you’d ever heard, a neo-crunk banger that seemed to be in constant rotation at every dive bar you hated. Now, looking back, the song appears as the beginning of an empire, the Party Rock upon which LMFAO—that’s Redfoo (the uncle) and SkyBlu (the nephew)—would build their thumping, neon-colored church. What is Party Rock, you ask? Well, for starters, it’s an album (which contained the aforementioned “Shots,” not to mention the equally catchy “I Am Not a Whore”), a mind-set, a way of life, and a nation-state with its very own “Party Rock Anthem,” one of the biggest tunes of 2011. Get your visas in order and pack your bags for what will surely be one of the most over-the-top mega-shows of the entire year.
