Unlike other local industry smorgasbords (cough, New Music Seminar) the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference displays an admirable best-and-brightest mentality, resulting in smartly diverse showcases like this. Where else are you going to hear a badass cosmic female rapper like Spain’s La Mala Rodriguez; an incisive young bilingual indie naïf and former telenovela star, such as Mexico’s Ximena Sariñana; Profetas, a grinding tropical hip-hop duo from Colombia; or Mexico’s classically inclined Sconek-T together in the same, possibly sweltering, outdoor venue? Nowhere else, my friend. Crack open that Rosetta Stone language software you got for Christmas, slap on the sunscreen, and prepare to enjoy the first of several great LAMC lineups this week, including tomorrow night’s Celebrate Brooklyn! rumpus with Calle 13 and Ana Tijoux.
