Though Kentucky has a rep as one of the most anti-marijuana states in the country, one of the commonwealth’s senators has submitted a prescription pot bill to the legislature for consideration, according to The Associated Press.
Perry Clark, a Democrat state senator from Louisville, told reporters that he wanted to start boosting the proposed measure far ahead of the next legislative session — which begins in January — in hopes that cancer patients could acquire the “miracle plant” ASAP.
Because of its climate, Kentucky is a major producer of pot.
It was also the center of the U.S.’s hemp industry until federal restrictions barred the crop.
Kentucky isn’t the only state considering such a measure.
In Arkansas, prescription pot proponents are busy gathering signatures to get medical marijuana on the ballot in November.
According to the AP, they have until the end of the day to wrap up their petition.
