Kimmo Pohjonen & Helsinki Nelson’s ‘Accordion Wrestling’

As unlikely as it may seem, during the mid-19th century, Finnish wrestling matches employed accordionists to accompany and mask grapplers’ grunts and farts. Tonight, a mat mic’d for SurroundSound amplifies the action during squeeze-boxing performance artist Kimmo Pohjonen’s blend of dance, sport, and music. Ten-member Finnish wrestling group Helsinki Nelson provides the muscle at what should be a spectacular Olympics alternative.
