Bhel Puri, $3.29

Parathas are cooked to order at this friendly, Indian snack shop on Lexington Avenue. A few chaats are available, like a bhel puri of puffed rice and crispy sev, which you should eat immediately, before the crispy bits get soaked through with tamarind and green chutney. Head downstairs to the dining room that’s been bejazzled with giant rhinestones and paisleys, where a rose wilts on every table and Bollywood music (like the endless title ballad from Kal Ho Naa Ho) might be playing. Make sure you dig in to mix up the onions and tomatoes hiding at the bottom.
