Meatopia 2012: Bigger, Better, And More Expensive

Meatopia is returning this year bigger and better. After months of fierce competition to narrow down the finalists from 300 original contestants, the nation’s top three meat cutters are going head-to-head to compete for the title of the “Best Butcher at Meatopia.”

The festival takes place September 8 at Randall’s Park, and the chef line-up (including NYC’s April Bloomfield, John Walsh, Zak Pelaccio, Marc Forgione, and Michael Toscano, among others) has already been announced. Celebrity judges will include Andrew Zimmern, Morgan Spurlock, Ted Allen, and Adam Richman.

The main differences from last year?

According to their website: “There will be live music on stage this year, featuring multiple bands including Woods, The Slackers, and the Living Kills. We are at work on creating a bourbon and scotch lounge with a cigar bar, a tented lounge area, and much more.”

There are no vegetarian options at the meat festival (duh) and tickets are going for $150 each. It includes all the food, beer, wine, spirits, Jeni’s ice cream, cold San Benedetto water, Honey Drop Tea, Robicelli’s cupcakes, and a ferry ride to and from the event.

For those unwilling to fork over the $140, Thrillist is sending a winner to Meatopia to witness the contest. The grand prize includes airfare for two, hotel accommodations, and early access to the festival. Meat lovers can enter online by August 5.
