Last night, my roommate and I wandered home from a concert and were pretty hungry. We couldn’t figure out a place to eat–a surprising amount of restaurants in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area are closed after 11 p.m. Then, I remembered that, somewhere, I had read something about the ramen kitchen at No Name Bar on Manhattan Avenue. My phone was dead, and the details were vague in my memory (“Ask the bartender for a menu… give it to the person in the basement… something something food food…”), so we decided to just go for it.
The place was loud and most patrons were unsurprisingly drunk, but we fought our way to to the bar and asked the bartender about the mysterious noodles, half expecting him to laugh us out the door. Instead, he responded pleasantly and handed us a menu, asked us to fill out a card with our order, and then bring it to the chef in the basement.
We followed his instructions and pushed through the crowd, and 15 minutes later were enjoying surprisingly delicious and spongy noodles in the basement of a bar without a name. Despite the backyard and upstairs being packed, the room downstairs was hardly full and we found a spot to sit in no time. I wished my chili noodles had a bit more spice, but all things considered, it didn’t bother me too much. To the soundtrack of 2 Chainz, we scarfed down our healthy-sized portions.
