Baked Explorations: Classic American Desserts Reinvented With Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito. The proprietors of Baked in Red Hook will be showcasing their recipes at the New York Public Library from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is free.

Third Annual Ice Cream Sunday, a Fundraiser to Benefit New Amsterdam Market. On August 19, New Amsterdam Market will be holding its third annual Ice Cream Sunday with the northeast’s ice cream makers. Sample delicious creations made by Gabrielle Carbone of the Bent Spoon, Amy Miller of Early Bird Cookery, Tracy Obolsky of Esca, Keren Weiner of Il Buco, Ashley Whitmore of Marlow & Sons, Fany Gerson of La Newyorkina, Catherine Oddenino of Luca and Bosco, James Distefano of Rouge Tomate, Forbes Fisher of Steve’s Ice Cream, and Ben Van Leeuwen of Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream. From Markets to Carts: Street Foods of New York. Whether purchased from stalls, trucks, or “street criers,” food vending on the streets of New York has a long and rich history. The 56th Street Round Table talk, organized by the New York Public Library and Momofuku restaurant, will explore the intersections of food and urban development, from pushcarts and tenement housing to food trucks and high rises. Speakers include Zach Brooks, founder of Midtown Lunch; Rebecca Federman, culinary collections librarian at the New York Public Library; Jane Zieglman, curator of the Tenement Museum Food Series; and New Amsterdam Market’s own founder and president, Robert LaValva. The event will be held at the Chambers Hotel from noon to 2 p.m.
