Biting into a big, gloppy burger might be one of the most satisfying acts you can do as a food lover. You chomp into the substance (beef? turkey? salmon? veggie?), crunching through cheese (cheddar? goat? blue? aged?) into a juicy blend of tomato, lettuce, onions, ketchup, mustard, etc., etc., etc. It’s too much to describe, really. There’s a reason that the burger is a classic American dish and one of the most popular meals in our country.
Last week, Voice critic Robert Sietsema curated a list of his 10 favorite burgers across the city, and it has become one of our most popular posts this year. He used the opportunity to examine what exactly it is that makes a good burger. Is it the bun? The main substance? The sauces? How it’s cooked? The condiments added? There might be too many factors to count, but somehow, he narrows his original list of dozens upon dozens down to 10.
