Here’s a new tip for those looking to shed some pounds: Dim the lights while eating.
According to a recent study, softer restaurant music and lighting can help cut calories.
Researchers transformed the atmosphere of a fast-food restaurant with milder music and lighting and found that customers ate 18 percent fewer calories than other people in the unmodified part of the restaurant.
Not only did they eat less, but also they ate longer and rated the food as more enjoyable.
“These results suggest that a more relaxed environment increases satisfaction and decreases consumption,” Brian Wansink, a former executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, told Reuters.
