How’s this for a PR stunt: you know that obnoxious friend of yours (or perhaps your overly Conservative mother — hi mom!) who always says that, “if (insert politicians name here) wins the election, I’m moving to Canada?”
Well, Queens-based JetBlue airlines wants to make that happen — but they want to take disgruntled voters to locales a bit more exotic than our frigid neighbor to the North.
Just in time to seize some of the political buzz surrounding tonight’s presidential debate, the airline has announced its “election protection” contest, where winners (or losers?) will receive a free flight to their choice of more than 20 countries if their pick in this year’s presidential election loses.
“We’ve all heard it said before: if my candidate does not win, I’m leaving the country,” says Marty St. George,
senior vice president of marketing and commercial strategy for the airline.
“Fun is one of our five founding values, and in this spirit we decided
to give people a chance to recover from the political noise and follow
through on their claim to skip town if their candidate comes up short.
And with service to more than 20 international destinations JetBlue is
the perfect fix. Most importantly, we want to highlight the freedom we
have as Americans to exercise our right to vote and encourage everyone
to do their part on November 6. Live Free or Fly!”
Some of the locations where Jetblue will drop you off free of charge include Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, St. Maarten, St. Lucia and Turks & Caicos.
But don’t worry — when you realize that while the resorts in
these countries are gorgeous, but the rest of the country is a
poverty-ridden shit-hole and you want to be an American again, the
airline will fly you home, too.
In all, JetBlue is giving away 2,012 round-trip ticket vouchers to contestants whose candidate loses.
