Best DIY All-Ages Venue

Few of Brooklyn’s all-ages DIY venues seem to exist in a way (or even long enough) to be considered an institution. These spaces, usually little more than dilapidated warehouses, struggle to establish community and familiarity as much as legalization. But Bushwick venue Shea Stadium has placed roots firmly into its New York heritage. From the venue’s name, taken from the departed baseball stadium in Queens to the venue’s giant and centrally located mural bearing the Mets logo, images of New York’s culture are reworked and celebrated in a way that is unusual and thought-provoking. Shea Stadium is also one of the few DIY all-ages spaces established (and resided) by lifelong New York City residents, punk band the So So Glos. The blood here runs deep. 20 Meadow Street, Brooklyn, (11206)
