In his memoir Total Recall, Arnold Schwarzenegger at last cops to having once said he admired Hitler.
“I philosophized that only a few men are born to lead,” Arnold writes, “while the rest of humanity is born to follow, and went from that into discussing history’s great conquerors and dictators.
“I admired Hitler’s speaking ability, though not what he did with it.
“Coming up with outrageous things to say was easy because I was always thinking of them to keep myself entertained.”
Chah-ming! Outrageous indeed! Got any material about the Klan?
By the way, the Terminator’s original quote–said to Pumping Iron director George Butler, who noted it for a book proposal–was:
“I admired Hitler, for instance, because he came from being a little man with almost no formal education, up to power.”
That’s like saying you admire an aging action-star-turned-politico who rises to the occasion and still manages to impregnate his maid!
