Grilled Kale & Escarole Salad $14 (with eggs $19), dish #9
Peter Hoffman’s Back Forty West serves an excellent kale salad. Add two eggs to these crisp leaves of grilled kale and juicy escarole, fried capers, and crunchy chickpeas coated in a creamy, Caesar-style dressing, and the salad can become a very satisfying meal. It may be simple, but once crowned with anchovies and Parmigiano, it rules over many of the renditions we’ve tasted this year.
