Food & Wine’s star-studded week concluded yesterday and one of the biggest events was the Grand Tasting which went from noon to 6 p.m. As promised, there was a lot of food and a little bit too much wine. Visitors were handed a “tasting” glass when they walked in and the venue had two continuously running stages with celebrity chefs. The Tasting, sponsored by ShopRite with KitchenAid Culinary Demonstrations, was admittedly product-heavy, but there were a handful of New York veterans (Casa Nonna and Sons of Essex among others) in the house. Oh, and we also found Guy Fieri.
A good number of the vendors were product representatives (think Campbell’s, Barilla, and Bertolli). But our favorite had to be Nutella, which was giving out Nutella sandwiches and crepes. Everyone loves hazelnut butter.
Other highlights included the meatball from LAVO (top), shrimp ceviche from the Hudson River Cafe (middle left), a sloppy joe from 508 GastroBrewery, (middle right), grits from Dizzy’s Club (bottom left), sesame noodles from Sons of Essex (bottom middle), and a crostini from Casa Nonna (bottom right).
And right before we left, we spotted Guy Fieri making a shake and pouring it down a woman’s throat. The crowd went wild.
