Elina Duni Quartet


“Erë Pranverore,” the jazziest number on Duni’s elegant new ECM tribute to the music of her Albanian homeland, was once banned by the nation’s communist government after its first and only performance (by Vaçe Zela) in 1962. Duni and her quartet, which features the sublimely spare pianist Colin Vallon, have transformed this and other nearly forgotten Albanian folk songs into affecting sonic madeleines.
