Hats off to the folks at the sparkling new Barclays Center for zeroing in on the boxing crowd as championship boxing returns to Brooklyn for the first time since 1931. Tonight, unbeaten Danny “Swift” Garcia will be defending his WBA Super, WBC and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Championships against the legendary Mexican warrior and future Hall of Famer Erik “El Terrible” Morales in a fight that should be one of the three or four best of the year. Brooklyn has raised many champions—including Mark Breland (Bed-Stuy), Joey Giardello (Flatbush), Riddick Bowe (Brownsville), and, of course, Iron Mike Tyson (Bed-Stuy)—and this card features another native son, Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi risking his WBA Welterweight World Championship against fast and dangerous Pablo César “El Demoledor” Cano. Look for the home crowd to go crazy!
