After a decade and a half of making indie rock that vacillates between heartrending and heartwarming, Death Cab for Cutie vocalist-guitarist Ben Gibbard released his first official solo bid earlier this year. And while it’s titled Former Lives, it has more in common musically with present-day Gibbard than, say, his work with the Postal Service or other sundry side projects. Judging from the set list to the one solo show he’d played at press time, though, he’s a little more generous with his former musical lives in a concert setting than he is on disc. With Advance Base.
