Say Goodbye to Denny’s Ice Cream Shop, Gilt, Boom


Denny’s Delight in Coney Island has closed after sustaining $50,000 in damages after Hurricane Sandy. Denny’s was known for its famous soft serve custard and funnel cakes. Owner Dick Zigun told Brooklyn Paper, “I’m as much of a fan of banana-pistachio ice cream as anybody else. I’m going to miss it.”

SoHo’s Boom closed after accruing more than $100,000 in hurricane damages. Former Boom partner Rocco Ancarola told the New York Post that the damages plus raised rent forced the 20-year-old restaurant to close.

According to Midtown Lunch, Times Square Hot Bagels will close in two weeks. The 44th Street shop cited high rent as the reason.

Gilt, the highbrow restaurant in the New York Palace, will serve its last dinner on Dec. 15. It will be replaced by a new Michael Richard restaurant.

Rack and Soul, the BBQ joint in Morningside Heights, closed. A note on the door read “Rack and Soul is now closed. I want to thank all of our loyal customers from the past 6 years. All the best, Michael Eberstadt.”
