On stage, these two hunker down, focused on making the most out of the chemistry at hand, but they’re also glib—terrifically so—as if nothing really mattered and the pithy jewels being sprayed from their horns would go on forever. Nice mix, right? Lovano the saxophonist and Douglas the trumpeter build it casually, and their nu-bop notions sparkle.
