If you’ve never tried Pappy Van Winkle’s Bourbon, there’s a good chance you won’t this gift giving season. Liquor stores are reportedly running out of the bourbon before it even hits shelves, no thanks to the distillery in Kentucky that bottles only 7,000 cases a year.
The niche liquor received applause from David Chang and Anthony Bourdain, who called it “the most glorious bourbon on the face of the planet.” Bottles start at $40, but the 23-year-old $250 bottle was deemed an excellent gift to give to the “CEO in your life.”
Only those who have been on long waiting lists will be getting or giving it this year. The Post reports that the chances of getting a bottle in New York are essentially zero. Apparently determined bourbon-philes can find Van Winkle on eBay for a price gouged $500, but there seem to be none up for sale at the moment.
In that case, how about a handle of Old Crow instead?
