Named for the West Point women’s basketball coach who died at age 28 of an undiagnosed heart condition, the Maggie Dixon Classic honors the only coach to take an Army team to an NCAA tournament. (During her six months as coach, the Lady Cadets stunned the basketball world by going 20-11.) This year, the seventh annual classic features two local teams. Rutgers and Louisiana Tech will tip off first, followed by the Sweet Sixteen rematch of St. John’s and Duke. So treat some budding basketball star in your life to first-rate round ball at a great price (tickets start at $20). And it’s all for a good cause: A portion of the proceeds go to CARE, which researches sudden cardiac death.
