Is anything more ludicrous than when adults—by whom I mean grown-ups who should know better—perform the popular music of the young among us? Fortunately for the brilliant trio of shameless comedy-cabaret vets behind Our Hit Parade, the answer is a big, fat nope. Bridget Everett, Kenny Mellman, Neal Medlyn, and their guests wrap up four years’ worth of live monthly Top 10 countdowns tonight with two final shows devoted to the year’s chart toppers and OHP’s greatest hits, respectively. Somewhere between a celebration and an exorcism of the mass-cult mind-set behind pop music’s latest mutations, OHP mixes things up with prop-art performances (often involving abused Barbie dolls), video mash-ups, political and other incorrectness, and just enough audience participation to keep you on your toes.
