The Zlatne Uste Brass Band’s annual Golden Festival transforms South Park Slope’s majestic, colorful, and somewhat surreal Grand Prospect Hall into an eight-hour, all-ages Balkan bacchanal—eats included. While brasstacular ensembles such as Ververitse, Slavic Soul Party, San Francisco’s Inspector Gadje, and Zlatne Uste perform, the Grand Ballroom becomes a kaleidscopic spectacle of circles within circles of dancers, most of who appear surprisingly proficient at stepping lively to oddball rhythms. Oh, and don’t forget the 58 or so other acts performing in the venue’s four rooms. These include Tipsy Oxcart, acoustic duo Isra-Alien, Punjabi loft jazzbos TriBeCaStan, Balkan-psych trio Choban Elektrik, the Yale Women’s Slavic Chorus, Arabic-Egyptian specialists Zikrayat, Lark in the Evening, Black Sea Hotel, and many other chandelier-swaying balkanizers of many nations.
