Friends Humberto Leon and Carol Lim did something most fashionistas only dream about: They quit their corporate jobs, and in 2002 opened up a little clothing boutique in downtown New York. Fashion hasn’t quite been the same since. That small shop called Opening Ceremony has multiplied all over the world and is now a global brand that specializes in stocking big-name labels (Alexander Wang, Rodarte) as well as avant-garde emerging designers (Jin Kay). Basically, whatever they sell is the trend of tomorrow. Tonight, the dynamic duo—also now creative directors of the Japanese label Kenzo—shares their business secrets as a part of FIAF’s Fashion Talks series.
