The Japanese phrase “sakura matsuri” literally translates to “cherry blossom festival,” but the annual Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden celebrates a whole lot more than the garden’s newly blooming cherry blossom trees. The festival, which occurs all day Saturday and Sunday, celebrates both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. Events are available for those who are new to Japanese culture as well as aficionados and are organized into a range of categories, including bonsai, manga and geek culture, and traditional and contemporary arts. With around 60 events occurring throughout each day, we dare you to attend this festival and find yourself bored.
