Long past his bravura performances on Daredevil and Batman, David Mazzucchelli has grown in stature with works like 2009’s Asterios Polyp, a stylistic extravaganza that includes an architect’s descent into the underworld. French cartoonist Blutch has been a leading European creator of bandes dessinées for decades, but his new work, So Long, Silver Screen, is the first published in North America (with a Mazzucchelli-designed cover, to boot). The two chameleonic artists meet as part of the French Embassy program Picture This!, bringing masters of illustration together to discuss their craft, including differences between French and American comics, and matching the style to the subject.
