The day after Hurricane Sandy hit New York, beloved Red Hook restaurant Fort Defiance began a long clean up, which started by moving their wine collection over to a storage facility. Now the Fort wonders, “Were the wines traumatized by the flood? Or did the water turn them more mysterious and profound instead, preserving the liquid inside to be enjoyed in happier days?”
Next Wednesday, May 8, the team plans to open up their best bottles and find out. Owner St. John Frizell and wine director Alex Halberstadt will host a family-style dinner prepared by the restaurant’s chef, Steve Linares ($85, includes wine).
They’ll open bottles from Olga Raffault, Dard & Ribo, Eric Nicolas, Hirotake Ooka, Domaine Gramenon, and Jean-Claude Lapalu. Seating is very limited; RSVP to FortDefianceBrooklyn@gmail.com.
