Sir Robert Cafe, 157 Allen Street
Per the Bowery Boogie, Chinese restaurant Sir Robert Cafe is now open on Allen Street, serving a menu that includes pan-fried pork dumplings, Hong Kong-style beef brisket rice and noodles and beef ball noodle soup.
Old School Brooklyn, 520 Court Street, Brooklyn
We get word that Old School Brooklyn has opened its doors in Carroll Gardens. Alessandro Peluso, who also owns Cacio e Pepe and Bocca, styled his new spot as a 1930s Brooklyn parlor, and he’s enlisted chef David Buico to turn out a menu of family-style comfort food with an Italian bent. Highlights include homemade mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes, hand-rolled cavatelli with sausage ragu and broccoli rabe and a fudge brownie sundae. The spot will also offer nightly specials, including gnocchi with tomato sauce on Tuesdays and crabmeat-stuffed Dover sole on Fridays.
Maharaja Palace, 2113 Frederick Douglass Boulevard
Frederick Douglass Boulevard — Harlem’s growing restaurant row — adds an Indian restaurant to the mix; HarlemGal Inc reports that Maharaja Palace will open tonight with a menu that includes classics like tikka masala, vindaloo and daal.
Coming soon: The Sandwich Bar, 33-01 Ditmars Boulevard, Queens
Slow-cooked, hand-carved roasted meats form the basis of the menu at this forthcoming sandwich shop — which will also feature a full bar — in Astoria. Owner Theo Stamatiou tells DNAInfo that he’s aiming to create a neighborhood joint. Barring any hiccups, the spot will open on June 3.
