I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream…and new ice cream! Here’s a look at some new and familiar places you can enjoy brand new versions of America’s favorite treat, none of which are the couch right before a Friends marathon.
OddFellows Ice Cream Co., 175 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn
Sam Mason rose to acclaim as the pasty chef at wd-50, then conquered the cutthroat world of condiments with Empire Mayonnaise. Now looking to make inroads with a traditional summer treat, Mason — together with partners Mohan and Holiday Kumar — unveils OddFellows Ice Cream this Thursday. The shop will feature eight to 10 flavors ranging from odd to odder to oddest, plus two to four sorbets available for those who like strange flavors on the lighter (or dairy-free) side. A selection of homemade sodas — also concocted by Mason — as well as candy and sweets completes the feel of Willy Wonka’s Williamsburg retreat. Cue Seinfeld fans finally being able to shout: “This pretzel ice cream is making me thirsty!”
Lady Moo Moo, 365 Chauncey Street, Brooklyn
As reported by Brownstoner, Lady Moo Moo’s is open for business in Bed-Stuy. The work of a former Jean Georges pastry chef Benoit Gerin (anybody else noticing a trend here?), the shop is a retail outpost for Mont Blanc Dessert, another Gerin-owned business. Mont Blanc provides gourmet gelatos and sorbets to restaurants, but in the shop, scoops at reasonable — not restaurant — prices are available in addition to wholesale containers.

Who says you can’t teach an old baker new tricks? This week, Francois Payard is unveiling his seasonal macaron ice cream sandwiches with a few new flavors for 2013. Combinations include pistachio with raspberry ice cream and coconut with mango sorbet. Not really into macarons? Payard’s house-made ice cream and sorbet are also available pastry-free.
