As another week comes to a close, we’ve gathered some news about things that are just getting started. Here’s a look at what’s happening around town.
Recette, 328 West 12th Street
Jesse Schenker’s contemporary West Village American spot just launched a Summer Supper menu that nets diners four courses (one snack, two plates, and a dessert option) for $40. It’s good incentive to set date night plans to revolve around dishes like salt cod fritters, wild arugula, and chocolate custard; just know that you might be too full to follow up with a movie after this night’s over.
The Original Nino’s Pizza, 131 Saint Marks Place
As reported by EV Grieve and The Local, Nino Camaj is very close to re-opening The Original Nino’s Pizza, which he sold and then repurchased when he heard about the subsequent decline in the pizzeria’s popularity and quality. The spot is expected to open “in about two weeks,” Camaj tells us, with a brand new interior. “Everything that was messed up is fixed already,” the owner adds.
Hawker Bar, 611 Vanderbilt Avenue, Brooklyn
Per Brownstoner, the former Sunburnt Calf space in Prospect Heights has undergone an ownership change and re-emerged as Hawker Bar. Tim Harris and Matilda Boland, two longtime Sunburnt Calf employees, took the reins of the address and instated a casual Southeast Asian eatery. Harris told us the space was welcomed with a “nice neighborhood party on Sunday night,” and he’s looking forward to the challenge of growing the new concept.
