Conrad Carlson is one of those dudes you want to hang out with every day. If he isn’t throwing wild parties in abandoned warehouses as DJ Dirtyfinger or building crazy-ass bikes with his Black Label Bicycle Club, then he can usually be found creating incredible artwork from trash using just a box-cutter. The self-taught artist and Brooklyn resident exhibits his work today in his first solo show in New York, Boxcutters in Brown Town. His work is composed of junk found around the city, which he then recontextualizes as abstract beyond recognition, “yielding a world of confusing symbolism, awkward creatures, and mesmerizing design via collage and sculpture.”

Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. Starts: July 5. Continues through July 31, 2013
