Visitors to South Street Seaport can expect some unusual activity today as thousands converge to take part in the always-silly MP3 Experiment. Now in its 10th year, the MP3 Experiment, run by Improv Everywhere, asks experimenters to download an MP3, fine-tune their clocks, gather and blend in at a chosen location, and—at the designated time—press play and let the craziness ensue. Past events have seen participants stage a massive water-gun battle while wearing shower caps, walk like a marching band through Times Square, and prance around wearing white bedsheets. This year, the MP3 will be released on July 12 around noon along with information about starting locations so that participants can prepare themselves (mentally and otherwise) for the tasks at hand. A new addition to the festivities this year is an official after-party (for those 21 and up) at the Seaport that runs attendees $10 for admission.
