Last week, we caught up with Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) executive director Peter Kim, who weighed in on the project’s plans for its first pop-up exhibit, “BOOM! The Puffing Gun and the Rise of Breakfast Cereal,” which will debut in August if it can get the Kickstarter funds together by July 20.
The focus of the exhibit is the puffing gun, a canon-like technology Kim says revolutionized the snack industry after it was used to puff cereal. Want to experience the dramatic machine firsthand in some star-powered company? The group is throwing a party on August 13, during which some big-name chefs from around the city will puff ingredients of their choice.
The party will feature cocktails from Booker & Dax’s Dave Arnold (who is also MOFAD’s founder). Chefs slated to be present include Cesare Casella (Salumeria Rosi), Wylie Dufresne (wd-50 and Alder), Brooks Headley (Del Posto), Anita Lo (Annisa), Nils Norén (French Culinary Institute), and Andy Ricker (Pok Pok NY).
Tickets cost $400, but you can only gain entrance to this party if you contribute $400 to the Kickstarter campaign. And if you’re inclined, there are only eight slots left as of this writing–so you’d better hurry.
