Art-punk rabble-rousers Wire have never conformed to the rock-career norms, whether hiring a Wire cover band to open for them when they grew weary of their early material or changing their name to Wir when drummer Robert Gotobed left the band briefly. Their latest poke in the eye of conformity is their 13th full-length, Change Becomes Us, which consists of songs sketched out in 1979 and 1980—tunes that were performed live, no less—that the group has reconstructed into new tracks. The fact that it sounds like Wire without sounding dated may be their biggest feat to date. With Bear in Heaven.
