If it takes an economic and social collapse such as Detroit’s to produce pop music as brilliantly demented as this Midwestern duo’s, so be it. Singer Ryan Spencer and guitarist Adam Pressley kicked off their brashly experimental recent debut with a blatant Brian Eno “appropriation” but then veer quickly into all sorts of twisted pop clichés, disorienting Southern hip-hop moves, and other swift trickery. For better or worse, they’re also noted for short live sets. With Sean Nicholas Savage, Blanche Blanche Blanche, and Regal Degal.
