When you think of a mystery, it’s hard not to conjure up images of guns, knives, and trench coats. But cheese? Indeed, Michael Paterniti went on a quest to solve an unusual kind of puzzle: the story of Ambrosio Molinos de las Heras’s famous mystical cheese, which includes a murder plot. Paterniti moved his family to Guzmán, Spain, after learning of the cheese in “the telling room,” a limestone cave dug into a hill on the edge of town where for centuries villagers have gone to share their stories. The result is The Telling Room: A Tale of Love, Betrayal, Revenge, and the World’s Greatest Piece of Cheese, Paterniti’s latest book, and tonight he talks all about his cheesy adventures.
