Where better to see Beyoncé’s ongoing Mrs. Carter Show world tour than the arena of which Mr. Carter owns 1/15 of 1 percent? Call it a family affair, but tonight’s show is about the half of that relationship that continues to put out captivating music. While we await her fifth album, let’s reflect on how 2011’s 4 was even better than the first three, a top-to-bottom classic that—with respect to “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”—included her two best singles since “Crazy in Love”: the sweeping “Countdown” and “Love on Top,” whose rolling key changes never fail to impress. Finally, that album gets the arena show it deserves.
