At 71, Taj Mahal still tours more than 150 days out of the year. Maybe it’s his diet—the guitarist holds a degree in agronomy and animal husbandry and prides himself on being able to apply spice to his cooking the same way he applies it to his blues lines. Never one to follow the recipe, multiculturalism abounds for the serial genre cross-pollinator, who remains a blues man to the core but has continued to pepper his melting pot style and harmonizing with hints of Indian rhythm, adding in generous helpings of jazz and Creole flair to taste.
