$10 Beer & Bourbon Tasting, Pizza Day Party, Cheese Making: What’s Happening This Week

If getting back to the office is giving you post-long weekend depression, keep your chin up: The kids are back at school, football is on TV, and the city is teeming with leave-work-early excuses. Here’s a look at what’s happening around town.

$10 Tasting with New Holland Brewing and Bourbon Tasting, Idle Hands, 25 Avenue B, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Representatives from Michigan’s New Holland Brewing will be on hand to pour out three featured brews and one bourbon for thirsty New Yorkers. Attendees will have the chance to interact with representatives to learn more about the brewing and distilling processes and learn about the inspiration behind brews like Poet Stout. Oh, and did we mention there’s tater tots? $10 collected at the door provides you all of the above; free advanced registration is recommended.

National Cheese Pizza Day, Goodfella’s, 144 Orchard Street, Thursday, 8:30 p.m.

That Peyton Manning, he’s a goodfella. And this Lower East Side location of Goodfella’s will celebrate his first game of the season with the chance to sample a new beer and pizza pairing menu while they watch the Denver Broncos battle the Baltimore Ravens. For $14, diners receive one personal pie–like pesto calamari or alla vodka–from a choice of five signature pies as well as a specially chosen craft beer.

From Vat to Vault, Bedford Cheese Shop, 67 Irving Place, Friday, 7 p.m.

With cooler temperatures around the corner, you might start planning indoor wine and cheese parties in place of barbecues. Wow–or annoy–other guests or make your own cheese for such an event with the knowledge you gain from this one-hour discussion of the fine points of cheese-making. Samples of the final product are also included in your $35 ticket.
