Fashion Week: The Most Fabulous Person at Erin Fetherston; Ivana Helsinki Goes Americana

New York Fashion Week officially began today, but we’ve been diligently covering it for the past two days. Erin Fetherston kicked things off right after Labor Day with her Spring/Summer 2014 intimate presentation in Tribeca.

For about eight years, the American designer has exhibited feminine wear under her eponymous label, and this season was no different. Each lace-and-satin gown looked like icing on a (gluten-free) cupcake. They were very pretty floral dresses—if you don’t mind looking like an adult going to the prom.

After the bubblegum fest, we gravitated toward the open bar, naturally, where someone caught our eye.

Although Fetherston and her hot new husband, Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship, are both gorgeous, there was one other person in attendance who stood out from all the guests and tween PR gals.

In a neon green plaid satin dress and purple hair sat Beatrix Ost. This German-born stunner is a model, writer, artist, designer, theatrical producer, trained dancer, actress, and fashionable woman-about-town. We were in awe just sitting next to her when a waiter, who perhaps couldn’t see past Ost’s fabulousness spilled a drink on her dress! She left soon thereafter. Show’s over!

The following day we caught Finnish label Ivana Helsinki at Chelsea Piers. She always seems to have outlandish shows, which we attend mostly for the spectacle, but we were pleasantly surprised by the short lace dresses, tie-dye sort of stockings, and black-and-white cork heels.

Although we were promised music by Shirley Manson, what we got instead was an eclectic array of folk. Perhaps this was Manson’s “Neil Young” Spotify playlist or something—who knows. But the short film (that seemed longer than most short films) that preceded the event didn’t help matters. Thank goodness the shoes always save the show.
