New York

Cartoonist Peter Kuper’s latest book, Drawn to New York, is inspired by his adopted city (he’s lived here since the Summer of Sam). Author of The System, Sticks and Stones, and more than 15 years of Spy vs. Spy strips for Mad, Kuper this time explores Gotham in luminous colored pencils and angular blacks, juxtaposing the upswept heights of skylines against a panhandler’s plea. The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is exhibiting his work through October 5; the opening reception is tonight. Next Tuesday, Kuper presents a slideshow lecture, eyeing the city from every kaleidoscopic angle. Reception tonight, 5-10, free. Lecture Oct. 1, 6:30.

Wed., Sept. 25, 5 p.m.; Tue., Oct. 1, 6:30 p.m., 2013
