Sponsored by the New York Road Runners, the Staten Island Half-Marathon is special for the panoramic views of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and New York Harbor. If you’re running in the NYC Marathon in three weeks, it’s a terrific warm-up. If you’re not up to a full marathon yet, it’s a terrific workout. Meanwhile, Coney Island and the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, Richmond County Bank Ballpark, will be the center of an all-day block party with live music and food from five of the best restaurants in Brooklyn. After the race, take part in the Staten Island Day 1.5-Mile Fun Run. All this is for a great cause: Proceeds go to the Siller Foundation and the Emergency Children’s Help Organization to assist victims of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.
