BREAKING: Possible Gunman Spotted on the Campus of Kean University [Update]

There are reports of an armed person on the campus of Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Details are spare, but Runnin’ Scared is gathering gathered all the information out there as the story develops.

Update, 11:50 a.m.: The campus has gotten the all-clear and ended the lockdown.

It seems that the Union Township police department doesn’t much care about the possibility of a shooter on Kean’s campus. When Runnin’ Scared called for comment, their dispatcher responded that Kean has its own police department, and that we hang up and call Kean.

Kean University Police declined comment, at which point Runnin’ Scared was transferred to the university press office, which also declined immediate comment, though it will be releasing a statement shortly. We will update as soon as we have it.

At approximately 11 a.m. an alert went out to faculty, students, and staff about the presence of the shooter, describing a black male of average height in a white Lakers jersey toting a shotgun on campus.

Minutes ago, the university Twitter posted this advisory:

The university campus is only partially locked down, according to a subsequent tweet:

Details are only slowly emerging about the armed man. There are no reports of any shootings on campus.

We will update as the situation develops.

Update: Reports are emerging that the man was unarmed. The campus has been given the all-clear.
