We have nothing against salons—this isn’t some macho take on how expensive haircuts are sucking the testosterone out of dudes everywhere—but if you’re sick of places that take more from your wallet than they do from your head, then consider popping into Ben’s Barbers, the small storefront shop a few blocks from the First Avenue L stop. Here, haircuts cost $16, shape-ups are $9, and you can get a precise straight razor shave for $16. Give them $17, and they’ll even have a go at that enchanted forest growing on your back. You could pick one of the barbers and become one of his regulars, but if you don’t, not to worry—we’ve tried many barbers at Ben’s and have never walked out with a bad ‘do.
