A former landfill at the mouth of the Bronx River originally rehabilitated in the era of Robert Moses and Fiorello La Guardia, Soundview Park has undergone recent renovations that make its 200 acres look better than ever. While there for a Summerstage concert from local freestyle legend George Lamond this year, we saw kids playing baseball, soccer, and basketball, families barbecuing, a couple launching their boat into the water, and even an off-duty Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr., enjoying the park and the music just as much as his constituents. The best time to go? Early morning when the park is at its quietest and its paths are at their most relaxed. Then you can sit on a bench and look over the East River to the airport that now bears Fiorello’s name, sipping on your coffee or eating your egg and cheese while the planes slowly descend over the water.
