Best Vegan Fashion

This year, Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart’s animal-friendly brand, Vaute Couture, proudly became the first all-vegan label to show on the runway at New York Fashion Week. The Chicago native launched her compassionate clothing line designing winter dress coats that were both warm and style-conscious without using fur, leather, or wool. Find her original outerwear, along with an expanded collection of everyday fashions, at the Vaute Couture flagship store in Williamsburg. The signature prints are colorful and girly—most feature flowers or woodland animals of some sort—but still work well as a unisex base, making them just as fetching on the men’s button-ups as they are on the full 360-degree “Reading Skirt.” Fabrics are impressively thick, which contribute to a structure and durability that’s worth the $100 price tag for most pieces. And the genuinely enthusiastic staff are just the right level of attentive to make shopping at the small boutique feel warm and personal.
